Traffic in the Badadanda (Grand Road) is in a shambles. Almost every day accidents occur on the road and many lose their lives while scores get injured.
Thanks to the ever- increasing vendor and wooden cabins along the road, which have narrowed the width of road, accidents are an everyday matter.
On Monday night, one town bus ran over a motor cycle rider, killing him on the spot. In the wake of the accident, hundreds of locals staged a road blockade and police had a tough time to disperse the crowd. The deceased was identified as Chuina Das of Sangram club lane under the Kumbharpada police limits. The bus driver escaped and police sent the body for post mortem and registered a case.
The High Court had directed the national high way and the civic body authorities, besides the district administration, to remove all illegal encroachers and vendors from the Badadanda. Surprisingly, hundreds of vendors have transformed the Badadanda into a market making it difficult for the pilgrims and devotees to negotiate the road properly while the concerned authorities are mysteriously silent over the implementation of the High Court directive.
Meanwhile, the residents have demanded to shift the vendors and all cabins.
