Puri Fani-hit residents gather at DM office

PNS

Thousands of women from Puri Sadar block, who have been affected by Cyclone Fani, gathered at the district Collectorate here on Monday seeking compensation for their damaged houses.

They alleged that despite suffering huge damages to their houses in the cyclone, their names were missing from beneficiary list. They said that while many households with no damages have received Rs 95,000 as compensation, the real beneficiaries have been overlooked.

Alleging corruption in the selection of beneficiaries, they demanded a res-survey to be done.

A delegation of BJP MLAs led by the party’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra also met district Collector Balawant Singh over the faulty selections of beneficiaries and payment of compensation to ineligible beneficiaries.

Accompanied by Puri MLA Jayant Kumar Sarangi, Brahmagiri MLA Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Krushak Morcha leader Krushna Chandra Jagdev and Asrit Patnaik, Patra demanded proper compensation to real beneficiaries and collection of the funds from the ineligible beneficiaries.

Reportedly, 2.75 residents in the district have received compensation out of total 3.5 lakhs houses. Allegations were made by villagers that that residents with no damages to houses have received Rs 95, 000 through money transfer to their accounts.

Such cases have been reported mostly from Pratap Ramachandrapur, Biranarasinghpur, Sukala, Rua, Pankola, ChandanpurPur, Chasiri, Gopinathpur gram panchayats under the Sadar block.
