The residents of the pilgrim city are heading for a difficult time ahead as the employees of the Puri Municipality have resolved to go on a mass leave for a fortnight from September 27. A row between Muncipality chairman Jayant Kumar Sarangi and executive officer Manish Agarwal has been the root of the problem.

According to reports, the employees were in dilemma as to whose order would be carried out. It so happened when the internal transfer orders of the executive officer passed on September 21 was rejected by the chairman. The chairman issued a circular not to act on the orders of the executive officer.

On the other hand, the executive officer issued an order that the employees not implementing his order would be taken to task.

Municipal employees body president Surendranath Dash said the employees were in utter distress and confused as to whose order would prevail and should be carried out. On Thursday, they staged a dharana in the municipality office campus and announced the decision of mass leave after a meeting.

Since there is no clear guideline over the issue, they preferred to go on leave till the Government resolves the issue, Dash said. It is learnt that chairman of the Puri Municipality Jayant Kumar Sarangi and executive officer Manish Agarwal have picked up in a tug of war for last many months over several issues.
