State Disaster Management Agency Chairperson SK Naik on Wednesday held a thorough discussion with Puri district officials on steps to mitigate the Tsunami effects.
He said 88 villages of the district under the Krushnaprasad, Brahmagiri, Puri Sadar, Gop, Nimapada, Kakatpur and Astarnaga blocks are Tsunami-prone for their vicinity to the coastline. In Puri, Chakratirth fishermen colony at Pentkota is barely 30 meters from the sea.
These areas and confluence points of rivers with the sea are very vulnerable to Tsunami. Extensive damages had occurred in these areas during the Super Cyclone, Tusnami, Phailin and Hudhud.
Naik advised the district officials to implement the recommendations of the IIT Kharagpur already submitted to the State Government in this regard. District officials, Block Development Officers and Tehsildars were present.
