Protest against bus fare hike

PNS

The CPI (Ml) Red Star State Committee on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of Baramunda bus-stand protesting bus fare hike and cheating of passengers in fare and services by bus operators in the State.

Party State secretary Shivram alleged that half of the buses plying in the State don’t have fitness certificates. Most of the buses plying in the rural areas use PDS kerosene, but the State Government is silent on this issue, he alleged.

He said most of the buses don’t obey the guidelines of the Government. The bus conductors take passengers like hens and chickens by throwing Government rules to the wind, he added. “Though the buses lack of services of even ordinary buses, the conductors take fares of Express, Deluxe and Super Deluxe buses from the passengers. About 90% of buses in State cheat passengers like this,” said Shivram.

The communist leader said the buses don’t obey reservation rule prescribed for women. They charge fare according to their will in different places of the State, he added. He said the Government always bows down to the demands of the bus owners during the discussion of fare hike issue. There is a nexus between bus owners and some Government officials on the issue of bus fare hike, he alleged.
