PNS

Members belonging to both Opposition Congress and BJP and the ruling BJD on Saturday demanded that the Sun Temple at Konark be taken care of properly by the Archaeological Survey of India and a statement from the State Government in this regard.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra brought to the notice of the House regarding a media report about the Konark Temple and said the famous monument is very much vulnerable to a low intensity earthquake measuring 6/7 on the Richter scale. The ASI is replacing carved stones with plain ones while repairing the monument.

“The Union Government has completely failed to protect the world-famous Konark Temple. The State Government is answerable to give clarification regarding the protection of the temple in view of the report,” Mishra said and demanded that the Speaker give a direction to the Government to make a statement in this regard.

BJP Legislature Party Leader KV Singh Deo and Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpathy also wanted to know about the protection of the temple.

Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat directed the Government to take note of the members’ demand.
