Odisha Krushak Mahasangha president and former MlA Bibhudhendra Pratap Das has alleged that the mass cutting of trees in and around Bhubaneswar in the name of widening of roads in last few years have made the State capital Bhubaneswar the hottest city in the State in the summer.

Das in a Press release said, “Neither the State Government is putting a strict ban on the running of vehicles which have completed 15 years from their date of registrations as per rule nor is it renovating the old roads while focusing on new roads causing felling of huge numbers of trees.”

“If the State Government puts a complete ban on the running of vehicles which have completed 15 years then nearly 50 per cent vehicles will disappear in Bhubaneswar.Similarly, if the Government ensures renovation of the old Jagannath Sadak, nearly 5,000 vehicles coming from Ganjam to Puri will not enter the city which will ultimately reduce pollution and mercury level,” said Das.

Das further urged the Government to keep the maximum height of buildings in Bhubaneswar at 27 meter.“Bhubaneswar is not only now a hottest place in the country it is also an earthquake-prone zone. The Government should take up these issues seriously,”said Das.
