Proper law execution can check farmers' suicide

PNS

Concerned over persisting farm problems and farmers’ suicide, the Mission Justice has proposed a citizens’ bill titled ‘Farmers’ Prosperity, Justice and Protection from Suicide Bill, 2016’ to protect farmers’ interest.

“Existing policies and guidelines for protection of farms and farmers are in pen and paper only. As these are not being properly implemented, farmers have turned a neglected and tortured lot. The untoward incidences that have happened in farmers’ lives in the last two decades need be discussed, rather a path of solution should be found out,” stated Tapan Padhi while presenting the bill on the occasion of Mission Justice’s fourth foundation day held here on March 25.

Participating in a seminar titled “Will legislations protect farmers from penury and suicidesIJ” held on the occasion, noted social worker Abhay Singh emphasised on re-adoption of natural system of cultivation involving  cows and oxen. Similarly, another social activist Prafulla Dhal expressed concerns over prevailing water scarcity and drying up of rivers.
