Problems in housing colonies: BDA, BMC should act

Rabinarayana Pani

Sir,

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) during 1994 floated schemes for HIG, MIG, lIG and EWS houses of 1,312 dwelling units. The semi-finished houses were completed during 1998. During the project period, the BDA constructed the main roads and internal roads. Thereafter, the main roads have been repaired, but the internal roads have not been. The blacktop surface has been totally damaged. It is not possible to commute on two-wheelers on the internal roads. The internal roads need to be repaired on a priority basis either by the BDA or the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Secondly, During March 2017, a part of the underground sewerage line was cleaned and the covers were fitted on the open manholes. The work has been done in respect of 50% area. The rest of the work is to be done at present since the rainy season is over. This work is to be done by Public Health Department.

Thirdly, there are no playground and children’s park in any of the colonies. The BDA should consider this.

Fourthly, Stray cattle are moving on the internal roads. So also, diseased dogs are roaming on the roads. The BMC is requested to catch the cows and bullocks and keep them in Kine Houses. Similarly, stray dogs may be caught and sterilised.

Fifthly, In the rainy season, bushes have grown here and there. Drains are full of mud. The BMC is requested to cut the bushes and clean the storm water drains.

The BDA and the BMC are requested to look to these genuine grievances of Kalinga Vihar Housing Colonies on a priority basis.
