Probe into DQ allotments hogwash, says Congress

Even as a PIl is pending in the Odisha High Court seeking CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in allotment of multiple plots and flats under the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA), the agency in an attempt to protect the beneficiaries is allegedly planning to initiate “irrelevant” action against them.

The CDA Vice-Chairman on Thursday said show-cause notices would soon be issued to the multiple allottees asking them to file their replies within two months. “After vetting the replies, suitable action will be initiated against those whose replies will not be satisfactory,” said CDA Vice-Chairman PC Das.

Notably, a taskforce headed by senior bureaucrat Dr Taradatt had suggested to the Government for cancellation of as many as 921 illegal allotments of plots, houses and flats by the CDA under the Discretionary Quota (DQ) that were made since January 1995. The CDA during the past two decades have made around 11,000 allotments under this category.

Terming the Government’s decision to hand over the matter to the Vigilance Directorate and the CDA’s dillydallying action as nothing but “hogwash”, the opposition Congress on Thursday alleged that the Government is trying to protect the illegal beneficiaries to the best of its ability.

“When a taskforce has already identified the defaulters and has categorically suggested for cancellation of these plots and flats, why is the Government pussyfooting in the whole issue,” asked senior Congress leader and PPC general secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.
