A day after the telephonic interview of jailed self proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul aired in a local TV channel, the Choudwar Circle Jail authorities on Saturday began investigation into the incident.
The incident came to the light after the interview which was given by the godman from inside the jail was telecast by the local TV channel on Friday.
According to sources, IG (Prisons) had allowed Choudwar Jail Superintendent Niranjan Das for investigation.
Das said, “We have to examine whether Santosh has given the interview from inside the jail or it was recorded outside the jail premises. We will also probe
whether someone has given the interview by imitating his voice. Whoever found guilty, will be punished.”
Das said as per the guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), all under-trial prisoners have been allowed to talk to their relatives, friends and legal practitioners for a maximum of 5-10 minutes once in a week. “At times, we allow the UTPs 1-2 minutes more on request,” he added.
He also said that there are two landline phones inside the jail having only outgoing call facility.
