Primary teachers warn of stir against pay anomaly

PNS

The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (under new pension scheme) has warned agitation against injustice meted out to the primary and upper primary teachers while fixing their salary under the 7th Pay Commission recommendation by the fitment committee of the State Government.

The association alleged that none of its demands presented before the fitment committee was granted and while fixing the salary, the seniority of the teachers was ignored.

The union said that teachers whether senior or junior have been entitled to same grade pay of Rs 2,200. Similarly, the basic pay has been calculated to be the same, ie, Rs 23,600 for those teachers who have been appointed after 1.1.2016 and those who have been appointed before and have rendered service for long years. While calculating the basic pay in the pay matrix, 3.18 has been multiplied with Rs 7,400 basic pay for teachers appointed after 1.1.2016 while 2.57 has been multiplied with the basic pay of the senior teachers appointed before that date.

The union demanded that if the Government does not sort out the pay anomaly and fixes the basic pay at Rs 35,400 for the senior teachers within a month, the disgruntled teachers would take to streets.

Among others, union president Rajesh Mohanty, general secretary Khagendranath Pal, Bikram Rath and Shahasransu Sekhar Mohanty were present.
