The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (under new pension scheme) on Saturday said it would hold a massive rally involving about 70,000 primary teachers here onSeptember 26 to press for fulfiment of its six demands, including hike in salary as per the Central rate.

“We demand that primary teachers belonging to all categories be given Pay Band 2 salary at the Central rate (Pay Rs9,300 and Grade Pay Rs4,200), counting of six years of Siksha Sahayaks as Government service and appointment subject-wise teachers on the basis of NCTE Direction, payment of salaries to all elementary cadre teachers from one head, the name of ‘Zilla Parishad Sikshak’ be changed and counted as assistant teachers and CT teachers be promoted to level-3 during service period,”  demanded association president Rajesh Mohanty and general secretary Khagendranath Pal.

They lamented the School and Mass Education Department has only given assurances to fulfil their demands but not implemented anyone of them. “While primary teachers in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi have been receiving Pay Band 2 salary for long, our Government has given assurances only,” lamented Mohanty.
