Priests protest Germans' entry in Biraja Temple

PNS

Priests of the Ma Biraja Temple at Jajpur resented the entry of  two foreigners into the temple premises as the 9th-century shrine does not permit entry of non-Hindus.

According to the priests, the two Germans managed to enter the temple premises and tried to get into the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine. Some priests and devotees spotted them and informed the police and temple office.

“They claimed to have come from Banaras. The temple people released them before the police reached the spot. We are trying to locate them and verify their antecedents,” said the IIC of the Jajpur town police station. Tension prevailed in the temple for half an hour following the foreigners’ entry.
