Miscreants, of late, have posed a serious threat to the bank account holders as well as bankers. They are siphoning off money from the bank accounts after extracting all the information of debit cards from the account holders by playing several tricks.
Not only the uneducated, even the educated people also are falling preys to these pranksters.
The latest known victim is Parsuram Jena of Gopinathpur Singla village under Basta block, who lost his money to some pranksters. Rs 2 lakh was taken away from his account through a series of withdrawal between September 17 and 28 last. The victim approached the Superintendent of Police seeking recovery of the amount.
According Jena, he received an unknown call identifying him as RK Sharma, verification officer of SBI main office in Mumbai. The prank caller stated Jena that his ATM debit card had been blocked. The caller further wanted to know all card details including the number and the PIN etc.
Jena unwittingly divulged all the details assuming that it would help his card to re-function since blockage of card would cause difficulties with his sister’s marriage approaching.
One day, however, he found a message on his mobile saying that Rs 2.4 lakh had been withdrawn from his account through a number of online shopping transactions, which he had not done.
Worried, Jena soon rushed to the Basta police station, but the IIC did not receive his FIR. Subsequently, he approached the SP.
A senior manager of a bank said, “The bank never asks any information over phone and hence, one shouldn’t entertain these calls.”
