The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has been conferred with the Think Odisha CSR Award-2014 for Disaster Management. PPT chairman Sudhansu Sekhara Mishra received the award from MP Baijayant Panda at the award giving ceremony here on Saturday.
The PPT was adjudged for the award by a jury considering the port’s commitment towards its CSR activities, especially its action to combat the pre- and post-cyclonic situation during the Phailin, which hit the Odisha coast last year.
The PPT opened seven cyclone shelters, and evacuated around 3,000 people from low-lying areas and kept them in the shelters. Under the leadership and direct supervision of PPT Chairman Mishra, basic facilities were made available for these people. The port restored early normalcy through adequate measures.
Besides, the PPT contributed Rs1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
While accepting the award, the PPT Chairman expressed his gratitude to all the trustees, employees, officers of the port, trade unions and other stakeholders for their unstinted support, which has resulted in achieving the port’s success.
