Sambalpur extended a warm welcome to renowned magician PC Sorcar Junior during his visit here for a magic show on Saturday. The senior PC Sorcar, also a equally famous magician, had visited Sambalpur in the year 1960, recalled Bimal Chandra Kar in his welcome address.

Hundreds of men and women greeted Sorcar Junior at Kalibadi here on Sunday, the place of worship for Bengalis.“After visiting the whole world, I found that there are many rich people in the developed countries. Buildings there touch the sky. Every luxury is available in those houses. But hardly a man or two live in those houses,” said Sorcar Junior.

“But in our county, we live together in one home, not house. Son, daughter, father and mother and grandfather and grandmother stay under one roof. There is a close bond of love and affection among them. They live happily no matter they are rich or poor. Hence, even poverty in India is a blessing of God for the people here for a better family bond,” said Sorcar, addressing the gathering. “I find India to be the best among all the countries in the world,” he said, adding that the culture and tradition is the greatest wealth of this country.

Sorcar said he loved so much the sweet fragrance in the flower people offered to him. But the flowers given to him in foreign countries look more beautiful but made of plastic, he recalled, comparing the reality to those unnaturally beautiful.

At the outset, Dr Durga Dutta welcomed Sorcar Junior and Bomal Kar presented a memento to him on behalf of the Bengali community. Shreya Nag performed Odissi dance in honour of Sorcar, who highly praised the performance.
