The potato crisis in the State is likely to prevail for next few days as a large number of trucks are still stuck at check gates on West Bengal-Odisha border near Baleswar.
Sources said the West Bengal Government has put restriction on the inter-state transportation of potato which resulted in slow supply of the tuber to Odisha on Sunday. Meanwhile, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Dasburma said the Government will take prompt measures to sort out the crisis.
“We have asked the Baleswar district Collector to see on what ground potato-laden trucks are being stuck at the borders. Prompt measures will be taken soon to address the crisis,” the Minister told reporters here.
On Saturday, the Minister had claimed that the potato crisis in the State was resolved after the West Bengal Government allowed some potato-laden trucks to enter Odisha. However, potato is now available at Maitree centres and Udyan Fresh counters at the rate of Rs 22 to Rs 25 per kg across the State.
