A Potato Mission team visited the district on Tuesday. The expert team headed by Suvendu Nayak visited several patches in Jaleswar to determine the patches where it could be grown and identified Chalanti and Rairamchandra pur for undertaking the tuber cultivation.
In the district while the tuber is extensively grown mainly in Basta, Sergargh, Nuapada and Jaleswar etc, this year the department has decided to grow tuber in more places in order to meet the shortfall during the scarcity period.
The farmers demanded higher MSP rather than
any subsidy. The team discussed with the farmers on procurement of seed and storage provision.
