Ahead of their Martyrs’ Week from July 28 to August 3, Maoist posters and banners have been put up at different places in Narayanpatna block in Koraput district including Podapadar panchayat office and on Janjabati riverbank. In a latest poster, the Red rebels appealed to the people to extend their support to the observance of the week.

The posters appeared just a stone’s throw away from the BSF camp near Podapadar. The banner bearing the name of Koraput-Srikakulam division also asked tribals to pay homage to 31 Maoist cadres slain in the police encounter in Chhattisgarh in October 2016.

Notably, division secretary Daya and other top leaders heading Malkangiri and Narayanpatna areas were among those killed in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the security forces are maintaining a vigil and taken various measures to ensure that the week passes off peacefully.

In Gajapati district, in view of the Martyrs’ Week the Dandakaranya local committee has announced to observe it, but no poster or banner has appeared till now in the district.

However, a high alert has been sounded throughout the district so that no untoward incident takes place, said Gajapati SP Sushil Kumar Panigrahi.

Police have conducted a communication campaign to maintain peace and harmony. In connection with this many awareness campaign has been conducted by the Gajapati police under the leadership of the SP.

Due to this campaign, the villagers would be able to inform the police about any suspicious persons or their activities, said the SP.

Police have made additional deployments in the Adaba, Mohana and R Udaygiri police station areas. Combing operations have been intensified at Adaba and Mohana block areas, informed Panigrahi.
