Popular civic leader of Cuttack Seshadev Nanda is no more. The 56-year-old Nanda breathed his last at the SCB Medical College Hospital here late on Saturday evening while undergoing treatment.
Family sources said Nanda was ailing for past several years. He is survived by his wife Pranati Mishra and a 10-year-old son. Before his mortal remains were consigned to flames at Satichoura crematorium here on Sunday afternoon, several eminent persons of the city visited his Kaligali residence to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
“Nanda was never a political leader in a true sense. But he was a champion civic leader and was an authority on municipal affairs,” said former city Mayor Nibediata Pradhan. The end came untimely to Nanda, said another former city Mayor, SK Ghosh.
Nanda was elected continuously for four times to the city civic body representing his Kaligali ward, twice as a councillor and twice as a corporator. An anti-Congressman throughout his life, Nanda was first elected as a councillor on a Janata Dal ticket and then as a BJD nominee. In 2003, he was elected as the lone Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP) corporator, but in 2009 he made his way into the CMC council as an Independent corporator.
