The Commissionerate Police on Monday took the arrested Dhalsamant brothers on a seven-day remand for further interrogations. A local court on the day allowed a seven-day police remand even as the police had prayed for a ten-day remand.
Soon after the court order, police took the brothers to an undisclosed location for questioning. Speaking to media for the first time after their arrests on Friday, the younger brother Sushil Dhalsamant said he is a victim of a deep-rooted political game-plan.
“There is a political conspiracy behind the arrest,” Sushil said while being whisked away by the police from Choudwar jail, where he was lodged with his elder brother Sushant ever since they were remanded in custody three days ago.
Entangled in as many as 11 cases since 1994, Sushil, aacquitted in some and granted bail in the remaining cases, was in the mainstream active in social works for last two years motivating youths in Cuttack city. He was even publishing a weekly news magazine.
But all hell broke loose when a battery of top BJP and Congress leaders attended the annual function of his youth organisation here on January 10 this year. Besides, intellectuals from other walks of life also joined him congratulating for the mega blood donation camp he organised the day before.
While the ruling BJD leaders were conspicuous by their absence at Sushil’s well-attended function, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, former Minister Samir Dey of BJP and Congress leaders lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Bhakta Charan Das and Suresh Mohapatra attended the same.
Sushil, although was not known for having any political inclination and was close to leaders of all major political parties in the city, the local BJD always looked upon him as a potential threat in the political arena for his massive youth followings. It is however, not known yet as to which political party or leader conspired against him and how.
