Police to send fresh summons to Chitra Athwani

PNS
The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday planned to serve fresh summons to Chitra Athwani, friend of Deccan Chronicle Group vice-chairman PK Iyer who was arrested from Hotel Trident in the city on June 6 in connection with a Rs 357 crore fraud case, as her deadline of first summons lapsed on June 30.
“Since Athwani has not responded to the first summon served on her to present herself before the Nayapalli police station is lapsing on June 30, we will send a fresh summons to her,” said Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma said here.
Dr Sharma said she would be treated as witness of the case. “If she fails to appear before us this time too, a warrant will be issued against her,” he said, adding, “The investigating officer in the case will send the summons under Section 160 of CrPC.”
Notably, the Commissionerate Police is presently investigating the nature of the relationship between PK Iyer and Chitra Athwani since he was arrested from a hotel room in the city booked in her name.
During investigation, the police came to know that she also stayed in the hotel for sometimes. Police sources said the summon was sent to Athwani at her Darbhanga address in Bihar.
