Police on Wednesday took former Sanakhemundi Congress MlA Ramesh Jena on a remand for five days for questioning him further.
The police had on Tuesday moved the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here to take Jena on a 14-day remand for interrogation.
However, the court late in the evening allowed the police to take him on a five-day remand while permitting his family members and lawyer to meet him for half an hour every day during the remand period.
The police in Wednesday amidst tight security escorted Jena from the Brahmapur Circle Jail to the Gopalpur police station for questioning. Jena’s counsel Nirmal Sahu met him at the police station premises.
It may be noted that Jena has been charged with illegal possession of firearms, hurling of bombs, criminal conspiracy and harbouring of criminals. He would be quizzed in connection with these charges during the remand, police sources said.
Jena was arrested on March 6. He has been booked under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 25 of the Arms Act, 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) and IPC Section 212 (harbouring offender).
