The forest officials of the Bairi forest range in Jajpur district on Saturday evening seized 5 kg of venison and a hide of a spotted deer from the house of one Machua Badara at Kaimatia village near the forest and arrested him.
Badara along with others killed the spotted deer on Saturday. The forest officials seized the venison, half-brunt head and hide of the deer. “The poacher used bow and arrow to kill the hoofed animal,” said Bairi range forest officer Chittaranjan Rout. However, other poachers managed to flee from the village. “We have sent the venison to the veterinary office at Badchana for examination,” added Rout. The arrested poacher, who was booked under Sections 28, 29, 23 and 5 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, was remanded to jail custody after his bail plea was rejected.
