The Punjab National Bank (PNB), Sundargarh has been penalised by the Sundargarh Consumer Forum to pay Rs 33,000 to a farmer for harassing her physically and mentally as shehad cleared her loan amount in due time, but the bank had notissued No -Objection Certificate (NOC) to  her and also not returned  her  original ROR.

Sources said Chandrakanti Patel’s husband Pradip Kumar Naik is a farmer at Brahmanipali village  under Sadar police station in  Sundargarh. Chandrakanti had  applied for agriculture loan of Rs 10 lakh in 2013 in PNB, Sundargarh by land patta as mortgage.

The bank had sanctioned the loan and  Chandrakanti had accordingly cleared her loan in due  time. Chandrakanti thereafter had requested PNB to give him NOC and ROR but PNB had not listened to her request. Finding no other alternative, in the year 2015, Chandrakanti had knocked at the door of Sundargarh Consumer Forum demanding Rs 1 lakh compensation from the PNB. Sundargarh Consumer Forum after registering a case, had started the judiciary process.

Recently, pronouncing  the  judgment of this case, a bench of Sundargarh Consumer  Forum comprising of Arun  Kumar Patel, President, Snehalata Patel, Member,  Babita Mohapatra, Member, asked authorities of PNB to pay Rs 30,000 to Chandrakanti towards compensation and also ordered bank to pay Rs 3,000 towards litigation  charges. Sundargarh  Consumer Forum also  ordered PNB to give NOC to  Chandrakanti and  return certified copy of ROR to her  within one month.
