'Plants coming under increasing pressure'

PNS

Presently, the various plants and animals are under pressure from different quarters. The reaction of plants to the pressure is different from the animals’. The pressure from manmade chemicals and bio-chemicals is doing more damaging than natural pressure to the plants.

Worldly disasters like climate change, floods, storms, drought and saltwater ingress are causing more and more damages to plants. The pollution caused due to use of chemicals is also affecting the flora. The human intervention in nature is also putting pressure on them.

As a result, the plants development and production is decreasing, said the speakers at a deliberation on “Reaction of Plants against Environmental Pressure,” organised by the Orissa Environmental Society (OES) here on Sunday.

The speakers further said the animals dependent on the plants for their living would face problems in survival. Former Vice-Chancellor Chandrasekhar Sarangi presided over the function and Botany Professor Arun Chandra Sahu was the chief speaker.
