Plaint over child marriage in Kendrapada

PNS

The members of International Human Rights Council led by its Odisha president Sasmita Das approached the Pattamundai police to intervene in a child marriage which was recently solemnised and initiate action against the guilty.

According to sources, the parents of the 17-year-old college girl had solemnized the marriage of the girl with a youth in a court on November 12 to avoid public disgrace as the duo had fled home secretly. Even, the duo’s family members decided to organise the marriage as per Vedic rituals on December 2.

Pratap Padhi, district president of International Human Rights Council, said, “We conducted an inquiry and also collected the documents to prove the girl is a minor. We approached the police to rescue the girl.”

When contacted, Pattamundai police station IIC Pramod Kumar Mallick informed that an inquiry was underway.
