The Bhusal Anchal Illegal Mines Khyatigrasta Praja Sangharsha Samiti convener Er Debashisha Hota approached the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) for rising attack against activists who raised their voice against illegal land grab by mining mafia.
Samiti secretary Kalandi Charan Behera was attacked while other activists were terrorized at Bhuban in Dhenkanal district where a mining work is illegally carried out by forcefully grabbing land of innocent farmers.
Hota had approached the apex rights body over attack on a poor farmer Pitabas Tarai by the mining mafia. He faced the wrath of the goons while protesting his paddy field being destroyed for the mining project. The local Sarpanch in connivance with the mining mafia was perpetrating the attack, alleged Hota.
The same Sapanch also attacked Samiti secretary Kalandi Behera for raising his voice in the case. The Sarpanch claimed that he was backed by political leaders, besides owners of the mining project, Hota said.
He alleged that though Behera had lodged a FIR, yet the local police were not taking any action in the case.
