Pipe water supply scenario improves in B'pur

KRUSHNA CHANDRA PANDA

Getting tap water right at the door step which had remained a myth for last two decades in Brahmapur has now become a reality.

With the joining of Biswabandhu Panigrahi as Superintendent Engineer and Head of Brahmapupr PHED, the overall condition of water supply system has remarkably improved.

Panigrahi and his team are  working hard for replacement of all age-old  PVC pipes with the DI pipe (ductile iron pipe ) in the city.

According to information available, the replacement work has been fully completed in Goodshed Road area of Lanjipalli, while the work at the Gandhinagar area of the city is almost on the verge of completion.

The president of Gandhinagar Senior Citizens Forum has expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the SE, PHDE Brahmapur Division for hassle-free supply of tap water to the public.

Notably, the PHED is currently expediting the water supply work through WATCo (a registered company looking after water supply and maintenance). The locals, however, hailed the efforts of the SE Panigrahi for the changed scenario. Even people of some areas who get tap water only one time a day are now getting required quantum of water with full pressure through their domestic connection.

Sources also said that, barring a very few areas, the current water supply in the city is almost regular and sufficient to meet the consumer needs.

However, the residents are not happy with the contractor who has been entrusted with the work of digging, laying of pipe and other works for maintaining inordinate delays. The lingering of works has been creating much inconvenience to the residents, sources informed.

Even heaps of muck are being dumped on the road  in many parts of the city for months by the contractor causing vehicular traffic and dust pollution, added sources.
