PIl seeks action against Puri servitors

While two Public Interest litigations (PIls) pertaining to irregularities in the Brahma Parivartan of lord Jagannath at Puri are still pending adjudication in the Odisha High Court, yet another PIl was filed on Thursday seeking stringent actions against the servitors who violated the age-old traditions associated with the Nabakalebar ritual of the deities.

Advocate Arun Kumar Budhhia in his petition has alleged that secret rituals of the deities have not been performed as per the Record of Rights (ROR) of the Puri temple as prepared under the Shree Jagannath Temple (Administration) Act of 1952.

“Deliberately flouting the stipulations contained in the ROR, the Shree Jagannath Temple Management Committee has acted illegally,” the petitioner said, adding that the Chief Administrator of the temple administration is solely responsible for the entire fiasco. The PIl has not been listed for adjudication yet, informed Budhhia.
