PIl challenges creation of corpus fund to help chit fund victims

PNS

Challenging the State Government’s July 10 announcement of creation of a corpus fund of Rs300 crore to help the chit fund victims, the Utkal Bharat on Thursday filed a public interest litigation (PIl) against the move in the Odisha High Court and demanded its immediate repeal.

Party treasurer Sk Kamiludhin and general secretary Bishnudutta Arya filed the PIl.

Arguing that the corpus fund would be constituted from the common taxpayers’ money, the petitioners questioned why the Government does not attach the fraudulent chit fund company owners’ properties in order to refund the duped investors’ money.

Meanwhile, party president Kharabela Swain had sought to know from the Finance Department about the source of money for the corpus fund. But the department denied information stating that the question is not coming with the purview of RTI.
