To meet the need of the growing population, a lot of technological changes have been made in agriculture to grow more. Of course, use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and hybrid seeds has doubled production, but it endangers the life of many birds and animals that depend on it,” said former Principal Scientist of the National Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack Dr Kshira Sagar Behera at the 77th seminar on ‘Current Issues in Environment and Science’, organised by the Orissa Environmental Society on Sunday.
The seminar focused on the topic ‘Faunal Diversity of Rice Field and a few Environmental Concerns’. The farming procedures are changing by the day to tackle the biggest threat of increasing population, he added. Behera also discussed on the modern technology used in the agriculture land and the environmental changes.
OES president Dr Sundar Narayan Patro chaired the meeting and vice-president lala AK Singh introduced the guests and gave welcome address. OES secretary Dr Jaya Krushna Panigrahi gave a brief introduction on the topic of discussion.
