Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Manoj Mohapatra on Thursday condemned the brutal attack by the local goons on members of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) while they were demonstrating peacefully at Chandikhol in Jajpur district on Wednesday.
During the current year, 31 hectares of groundnut crops has been damaged in the district due to the poor quality seeds provided by the State Government. Besides, violating law, Sakti Sugar Company did not purchase sugarcane from the local farmers. Failing to repay loans, Sachindra Shukla of Sahupada village under Bari block committed suicide, he pointed out.
Mohapatra demanded that the State Government provide compensation of Rs 15, 000 per acre to each groundnut farmer and ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Shukla who committed suicide.
