PNS

Hundreds of devotees witnessed the Rath Yatra held at Brahmanagar Third lane here on Sunday as lord Jagannath began a nine-day sojourn with his chariot moving in a procession en route Brajanagar, Brahmanagar and the main roads of Brahmapur and stopped at the Gundicha temple.

Jagannath tasted the Podapitha (baked cake) at the Mausima temple as per the tradition. Hundreds of devotees jostled to have a glimpse of the deity who came out of his temple built in the house of lawyer Arjuna Patro of Brahmanagar

third lane.

The Yatra is being performed by Patro’s family members, Aashutosh Patro and Anup Patro with the cooperation of local residents since last one decade.

Several young devotees dancing to the tunes of ghanta badya, cymbals, drums and blowing of conchs and trumpets presented a serene and celestial atmosphere in the whole area.

The locals hailed efforts of Patro family which has retained the long tradition left by Arjuna Patro. Among others, Ramakanta Patnaik, Nirup Patnaik and Prasanta Das coordinated the Yatra.
