The district administration and the Health Department have started a probe after photos and videos of a patient getting treated by a doctor under mobile phone torchlight at the Marshaghai Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kendrapada district went viral on social media.

A motorbike rider had sustained serious injuries in a road mishap on Monday night and was rushed to the CHC. While the doctor and staffs were stitching the patient’s wounds, electric lights went off. The doctor was forced to complete the stitching under mobile phone light.

When contacted, Additional Chief District Medical Officer Dr Mirza Babar Baig s said the matter has come to his notice and a probe has been ordered into the incident.

Though the CHC has a generator, connection has not been provided to the OPD dressing room and labour room. This is not the first time that a patient was treated under mobile phone light. Such incidents occur at regular intervals with patients being treated under torchlight, candlelight and mobile torchlight, alleged locals.
