The Port Day was observed on the auspicious Kartik Purnima by the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) on Sunday. PPT chairman SS Mishra, as the chief guest, unfurled the Paradip Port flag and handed over the sacred Kalas to the Sadhavas who set sail on board a traditionally decorated boat. He also inspected the port marine crafts. Port Deputy Conservator Capt GP Biswal welcomed the guests.

Referring to the recent Phailin, Mishra recalled how Paradip people faced it so bravely. The port authorities exhibited their social commitment by taking care of the people staying in the low-laying areas.

Operations at the Paradi Port were suspended, but the very next day the port came back to action while many ports in the neighbourhood could not resume their operations for the next seven days, he said. “Our port proved to the world that Paradipians are capable of producing wonders. We have witnessed 30% growth in cargo handling during this year compared to the same period of last year. The PPT achieved the number two position in cargo handling. We have achieved 106 MT of capacity, which is the highest among all the Major Ports of India,” Mishra said.

Referring to the recently-signed PPT-GAIl MoU, Mishra said Paradip is going to be the gas hub for eastern and central India. The PPT is also in the process of selecting a partner for construction of a multipurpose berth for container handling.

Mishra also referred to the PPT’s myriad CSR activities and the steps for environment management. “The PPT is committed for achieving growth, contributing for development of the State and the country and working for economic prosperity while assuring a healthy environment,” said Mishra.

The PPT Chairman felicitated Chess Grand Master Debasish Das for doing Odisha proud and Sambit Patra for his expertise in various languages. He also handed over the key of the new air-conditioned ambulance to the Port Trust Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer to induct the ambulance in the port medical service.
