Paradip Port workers not to back March 9 strike

PNS

The decision of the Centre to corporatise all major ports of India has agitated the employees of all major ports who have served notice at the respective ports for going on a strike from March 9.

All the Port Dock Workers’ Federation opposing the move will picket before all major ports’ administrative offices opposing a Bill in this direction. The unions also have sent letters to the PM, Shipping Min and concerned departments intimating their proposed strike. However, labourers of the Paradip Port have welcomed such a move.

They said that they are working as labourers in the port since 1980 for cargo handling. The port’s cargo handling capacity has gone by several notches. The PPT has achieved second position in cargo handling among all major Ports. But these labourers are yet to be regularised.
