As Phailin losses are yet to be met

People of Mayurbhanj district, who are yet to recover from the damages caused by the Phailin in October 2013, are now extremely worried as to how to combat the possible Hudhud cyclone, which is likely to hit the State on October 12.

“We have suffered a lot and are yet to recover from the damages caused by the Phailin. The Government didn’t provide us any relief materials. How will we face another calamity in span of just a yearIJ” reacted some locals here.

Some villagers, who had come here for some work on Wednesday, said their economic condition would deteriorate further if Hudhud hits them. “We cannot see to losing our crops anymore. Our economic backbone will be further weakened if the Government doesn’t come to our help this time,” they said. They even alleged that the roads which were damaged by the Phailin are yet to be repaired or reconstructed. Besides, the District Headquarters Hospital is yet to function properly as equipment and machineries damaged last year are yet to be repaired or replaced.

Most of the patients are being shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack due to unavailability of apparatus, they alleged.

Meanwhile, some intellectuals have demanded that the district administration take appropriate steps soon to evacuate people from the identified danger zones and keep relief materials ready for distribution if Hudhud hits people of the district.
