Panic grips Cuttack as 3 killed in 24 hrs

PNS

Three back-to-back murders in the city during the past 24 hours and the Commissionerate police unable to know the motives behind the killings or identify the murderer(s) yet have sent the residents into a tizzy. More particularly, the homeless and disadvantaged people wandering in the city are in a state of panic.

Surprisingly, the city police have not been able to identify the dead bodies so far, nor have they gathered any information about the victims or their avocations. Unidentified dead bodies, untraced killer(s) and unknown motives behind the murders have prompted the grapevine to spread rumours in the city.

“In order to divert attention from a very badly deteriorating law and order situation in the city, a section of people trying to keep the inefficient city police in good humour are lending unrealistic colours like the hand of a psycho-killer behind the murders what otherwise appear to be cold-blooded killings,” said a shop owner of Malgodown in the city requesting to remain anonymous.

The first body was traced from the Ranihat bridge on Tuesday morning while two other bodies, one each from near the SCB Medical College and neighbouring OMP market, were traced on Wednesday morning. All the three bodies had deep cuts in their necks, which nevertheless fans the rumour of a single killer behind all the three murders.

Meanwhile, the city police have stepped up the night patrolling and senior police officers are deployed at strategic locations asking the homeless people to sleep at shelter homes. “People are asked not to sleep alone at isolated places,” said city DCP Akhileswar Singh.
