A team of the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch seized a live pangolin and arrested a wildlife smuggler in this connection in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.
The team along with Satkosia Wildlife Forest Range officials conducted a raid at a place near the Satkosia-Nalda road. The team seized the pangolin and incriminating materials from the possession of the arrestee identified as Nilamali Dehury of Padmapur under the Anandpur police station in Keonjhar district. As the accused could not produce any valid document in support of possession of the animal, he was detained and handed over to Karanjia Forest officials for legal action. Later, the pangolin was handed over to the DFO Wildlife Division, Karanjia for safe custody. Further investigation was on.
