Panel formed to save stooping Berhampur University

In view of the unabated indiscipline in campus, student unrest, non-progress in investigation into scams of the Berhampur University, Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch (MASM), a city-based social organisation, formed a special committee to save the age-old institution. It alleged that due to a conspiracy by vested interests, all is not well with the university.

Describing the administrative regime between 2010 and 2015 as the darkest period in university history, MASM coordinator and social activist advocate Abani Kumar Gaya alleged that misappropriation of funds was galore. However, it said that the Government was silent about the messy affairs and stopped short of instituting proper inquiry into the scams.

To restore the previous glory of the university, the MASM in an emergency meeting held at Bijipur here on Thursday unanimously decided to form a “Viswa Vidyalaya Bancha O’ Committee” (Save University Committee), taking intellectuals, academicians, advocates, and scribes to expose the corrupt practices of the university to which the Government so far has paid deaf ears, said MASM president Upendranath Mishra and general secretary Maguni Nahak.

The meeting flayed the administrative apathy in controlling mismanagement of examination, sale of duplicate certificates, forging of marksheets and tampering in admissions in the university and no effort to take action against the culprits.
