Pak cyber criminals hack Utkal university website

DEBADAS PRADHAN

Raising serious concerns over cyber security in the State, the official website of the Utkal University, www.utkaluniversity.ac.in, was hacked allegedly by a group of suspected Pakistani cyber attackers on Tuesday.

The hackers, who identified themselves as “Team Pak Cyber Attackers” from Pakistan, defaced the website by posting a Pakistani flag with a message Pakistan Zindabad on the home page.

The national flag of Pakistan with Pakistan Zindabad and We Are Team Pak Cyber Attacker written on it are also displayed on the homepage of the website.

Besides, the hackers also wrote #Utkal University Hacked IJ!IJ Shame On Your Security on the website.

Soon after the news broke, the university authorities blocked the website and lodged a complaint with the Commissionerate Police. However, sources said the case would be handed over to the Crime Branch Cyber Cell for probe.

“We have blocked the website temporarily. It will be active after necessary changes,” said Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Ashok Das.

Meanwhile, DGP KB Singh said every organisation must ensure security of its website.

“Every site should have a proper security provision. They should have their own security. The institutions are not making the security foolproof,  resulting in hacking,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, Special DG (Crime) BK Sharma said they have got some information regarding the recent hacking of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) website.

“A Philippines-based telephone company has hacked the OSSC website. The company is not proving any information about its server. So, we are collecting all information in a diplomatic way,” Sharma added.

The official site of the OSSC, ossc.gov.in, was reportedly hacked by Philippine Cyber Syndicate on April 20.

Earlier on January 3, a similar group of cyber attackers had hacked the website of the Regional Transport Office in Ganjam. The CB is yet to crack the case.
