Gamblers are having a field day here as they manage to spread their activities without bar with the local police having failed to crack down on them.
They are particularly very active in Kacheri Chowk, Jagdalpur, Satibhata and Paikmal road of Padampur town.
According to sources, the youths have been their prime target. The lure of money in gambling attracts many to throw their hat in the ring but most of the time they end up losing their bets and left heartbroken.
The illegal game is also forcing many to do crime as gambling (Sata) grows a sort of habit. It is reported that some people who are regulars in the game have gone to the extent of having left with nothing at home, not even the utensils. Thanks to the police administration’s apathy, gambling is going on in the town unabated.
The affected youths are involved in loot, robbery and several other crimes for earning easy money. Numerous allegations have been levelled against the gamblers, but no action has been taken till date. Badly needing a respite from the hooligans, the public in Padampur have urged the Baragarh SP to rein in
the gamblers.
