The ruling BJD continued its winning spree from the inception of the formation of BMC. In 2009, the party had won 40 out of 60 wards while the BJP and the Congress bagged nine and four, respectively.

In the 2003 polls, however, the BJP and the Congress had done much better. The BJP had won 13 seats and the Congress 10 out of the total 47 wards while the BJD had won 18 seats. A post-poll BJD-BJP alliance had formed the BMC council in 2003. In the 2014 elections, the number of seats won by the Independents doubled to 12 compared to the both 2009 and 2003 polls. The Samruddha Odisha didn't get a single seat this time while it had won one in the 2009 polls.
