Students of the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) locked up the main gate of the college and staged demonstration in the campus on Thursday demanding appointment of a permanent Dean.
The students alleged that despite repeated complaints, the concerned authorities have not taken any step to meet their demand.
“It has been six months that the college is functioning with a temporary Dean. Though, we have a dean-in charge, he is from the Agriculture college. Our college has sufficient number of Professors and doctors, who are highly qualified in our stream so why do we have a dean who is from another department,” said an agitating student.
The students also threatened to continue the strike for an indefinite period if their demands are not fulfilled. Later, OUAT Vice-Chancellor Surendra Nath Pasupalak held discussions with the students.
Pasupalak accepted that the students intimated the concerned authorities about their demands. “A letter regarding the appointment of a permanent dean for the college has been sent to the Chancellor of Universities and Governor Ganeshi Lal. Once the Chancellor gives direction, we will proceed with the appointment,” he said.
