The Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch has arrested another accused in connection with the OTP sharing scam with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). With this, the total number of arrests in the case rose to six.
The new accused, identified as Abhijeet Sanjay Jambure, was arrested from Pune in Maharashtra on June 29. Abhijeet was produced before a local court in Pune and brought to Bhubaneswar on three days’ transit remand. Later, he was produced in a Bhubaneswar court on Saturday.
Earlier, a non-bailable warrant (NBW) had been issued against him by the court in Bhubaneswar. He is a resident of Satara district of Maharashtra and is a postgraduate in Statistics from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University, Anand in Gujarat.
Currently, he was working in a software company in Pune. He was in regular touch with two Pakistani Pakistani Army Intelligence officials since long. In 2018, he met one Syed Danish Ali Naqvi alias Danish of Khanki, Faislabad in Pakistan through Facebook messenger, who identified himself as Freelancer at ‘Chegg’ (an American education technology company).
Abhijeet had shared his user id and password of ‘Chegg’ to Danish. Danish was working (solving problem, questions) in Chegg on Abhijeet’s identity but the earning was credited in the Abhijeet’s account in India. However to return this ‘favour’, Abhijeet had to do some ‘work’ for Danish.
Danish introduced him to his friend namely Abdul Hamid alias Khurram of Karachi in Pakistan. Khurram is suspected to be a senior Pakistan Army intelligence officer having a big base or network of agents in India.
As per instruction of Khurram, he used to transfer money to various Pakistani PIOs working in India. Abhijeet also spoke with at least seven Pakistan citizens and 10 Nigerian citizens through WhatsApp. Further investigation is on, said the STF.
