During a surprise visit of the Vice-Chancellor of Odisha State Open University (OSOU) to its Regional Centre (RC) at Bhubaneswar, only five out of 14 staffers were found in the beginning of the office hour.
Since the VC is a new one to this organisation, nobody could know him. Still observing his activities, some could guess and informed other staffs who rushed in one after another, reliable sources said.
Prof Arka Kumar Das Mohapatra has been newly appointed as the VC of OSOU and he wants to streamline the activities of the university, which now has 40,000 students within a span of only seven years. During his surprise visit, the VC wanted to see the work culture and sincerity of the staffs and found what was beyond his expectation in a place like the State capital.
“Since it was for the first time, I have warned all of them. But in future, it will never be tolerated,” said Prof Das Mahapatra.
But it was a gross irregularity and shows how things were going on in this manner earlier, he added.
“I further found that there is no rule of clarity in the office. Hence, I suggested the in-charge of the regional centre to keep clarity of authority in place so that works of the university will be easy and smooth,” he said.
