After a hiatus of 22 long years, the Odisha State Cooperative Bank (OSCB) has hired around 40 professionals for the posts of Junior Managers to handle daily banking transactions.
The candidates have been selected through a rigorous recruitment process, said OSCB sources. The appointment of the young professionals would help those customers who were facing a tough time at the bank’s various branches due to shortage of manpower, the sources said.
OSCB Chief Bishnupada Sethi, who is also the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Cooperation, roped in the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), the leading national-level institution which recruits officers and clerks for various banks of the country, for recruitment of the professionals.
The IBPS conducted an online written examination in various centres in the State. Around 38,000 candidates had applied for the posts in both OSCB and district-level Central Cooperative Banks. However 19,746 candidates appeared at the online examination, which was conducted on December 21and 22 last, and the list of the successful candidates was released on December 23 by the IBPS.
Only 147 candidates were selected for the viva voce test, of which 40 were declared suitable for the jobs, said ISCB Managing Director Tusar Kant Panda.
For the 892 posts of Assistant Managers of several District Central Cooperative Banks, viva voce tests would be conducted soon by the District level Selection Committees headed by the Collectors of the districts concerned, he said.
Earlier, the OSCB had hired engineers to work at the Core Banking facilities soon to be opened by the bank.
