Opposition Congress on Monday accused State Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Snehangini Chhuria of abducting a person in order to stop the latter from voting in the Cooperative Society polls held in January in Bargarh district. leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra in a Special Mention during Zero Hour read out an FIR filed by one Durga Ranabida of Hatagaon under Bargarh district’s Veden block which stated that the Minister had abducted Durga’s father Sugri before the election to Rushuda Credit Cooperative Society in Bheden block.

Though an FIR was lodged on January 25, the same was registered on January 29. Despite the Minister’s name being mentioned in the FIR, the police dropped her name from the case. In view of this, the police should be liable for this, Mishra said drawing attention of the Speaker. The leader of Opposition urged the Speaker to direct the Government to give a statement on the issue within 48 hours. Other Congress members like Prafulla Majhi and Tara Prasad Bahinipati too raised the issue.
